Which TV news was your all-time favourite?
Local news in Canberra
Does anyone remember the days when we used to have local news on all TV stations in Canberra.
When we had aggregation on March 31, 1989, Canberra got 2 more sources of local news.
Over the years since (while the turmoil dragged on behind the scenes) we had 3 alternatives as well as the ABC's mix of local, national and international news.
Prime changed its format around several times. Remember Prime's 5.45 News? They even axed the local news for a year then returned it. Then the local news was axed permanently in June 2001, and this was it. Calls for the local news to be returned there were answered with just brief wrapups on some commercial breaks.
Capital Television ran a local news bulletin throughout the lifetime of CTC-7, until that too was axed permanently and suddenly, in November 2001. Their ageing equipment was never replaced, and was failing ever more, and instead they dumped the local news and since then we have been putting up with the Sydney crap that goes to air at 5pm with the wankiest weather segment known in Australia.
Ever since WIN TV was born from TV aggregation in 1989, WIN News has survived without so much as a scratch.

Re: Local news in Canberra
Another news service would be nice, but considering the backwards slide WIN has been having with it's local news, we might be stuck with Sydney news for some time to come

Well, I don't mind the ABC. They make alot of mistakes though, so it's funny. It's to do with the new computer system they got.

I still remember when it was a ratings war between WIN news, PRIME Local News and Ten Capital news!
Those were the days...
